AI coding tools write working code fast, but they often skip security. Leaked API keys and open databases are two of the most common ways vibe-coded apps get burned. Run these five checks before you share yours, free, whether or not you buy a kit:
- No secrets in the browser. API keys (OpenAI, a Stripe secret key, a Supabase
service_rolekey) never go in front-end code or inNEXT_PUBLIC_/VITE_variables. Keep them on the server. .envis in.gitignore. Check before your first push. If a key was ever committed, rotate it.- Lock down your database. On Supabase, turn on Row Level Security for every table. On Firebase, no
allow read, write: if truerules. - Check logins on the server. Every API route that reads or changes user data must verify who is logged in. Hiding a button is not security.
- Verify payments with a webhook. Don't treat a "success" page as proof of payment. Confirm it with a signed Stripe webhook.
